During week 3, guardians will receive a letter with more detailed instructions on registration practices.

In August 2024, all children born in 2017 or earlier who have not yet started school will start school. 

In Jyväskylä, registration for the first class will take place 16.-30.1.2024 in the Wilma system. In addition, guardians will have an information session on 24.1. from 6 pm to 7.30 pm, where they will be guided on how to register for the first class in the Wilma system. The event will be held remotely. Link to gardians information session. 

In Jyväskylä, it is possible to complete comprehensive school not only in Finnish-speaking teaching groups, but also in Kortepohja school's English-language teaching groups or Kuokkala svenska skola's Swedish-language teaching groups. Registration for Jyväskylä City Schools, Jyväskylä Teacher Training School, Jyväskylä Christian School and Jyväskylä Steiner School is done using the same form.

The guardians will be notified of the admission by Wilma message or by letter home on 11.3.2024. Private schools announce admissions in accordance with their own practices.

Morning and afternoon activities in basic education in Jälkkäri and morning and afternoon activities for children in need of demanding and special support Registration for Vertti will be done in the Wilma system between 12.-26.3.2024, when it is known which school the child will start at in August.

The A1 language is selected when registration for the first class


The study of the first foreign language, A1 language, begins in the first grade in Finland. The A1 language will be chosen in the Wilma system when registration for the first class. The letter of more detailed instruction on reigistration practices have also instructions on studying and choosing the A1 language. In basic education schools in Jyväskylä, you can choose English, French, German or Russian as the A1 language. At Kuokkala svenska skola, the A1 syllabus is modersmålsinriktad finska (native Finnish). In Kortepohja's English-language basic education, the A1 syllabus is English.

To form a German, French or Russian language group, a group of at least 12 students/school is required. If the minimum group size of 12 pupils is not met in German, French or Russian, English will be introduced as the A1 language for all pupils.
