Renovation work will begin at the end of Kilpisenkatu and proceed one shelter at a time toward Asemakatu. The shelter under construction will be fenced off during this phase, which will narrow the pathways for customers in the bus stop area.
Efforts will be made to keep disruptions to public transit users caused by the construction to a minimum. The largest work phases will be scheduled for off-peak hours or, if necessary, at night. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.
A New Look with Lighting and Decals
The old art glass panels on the Linkkikeskus’s large canopies will be removed and replaced with new, wider glass panels that offer better weather protection. In addition, new benches will be installed along the entire length of the stone pavers.
The canopies’ new look will be achieved through lighting and colorful decals. Windbreaks will also be installed on the canopies, which not only improve weather protection but also give the bus stops a distinctive visual identity.
It is now extremely important to exercise caution when moving around
During construction, anyone moving around the Linkkikeskus area should exercise extreme caution. The street can only be crossed safely via the crosswalks located at the intersection of Kilpisenkatu and Asemakatu.
Darting between the Linkki structures or rushing out in front of cars is extremely risky: it can be difficult for a bus driver to see a pedestrian stepping in front of the bus. In addition to moving vehicles, you must now be aware of the construction zone boundaries.
Construction of Asema Square and the lower section of Asemakatu will begin this spring
Construction of the renovated Asema Square and the lower section of Asemakatu will also begin this spring. Further details regarding the start of construction and the schedule will be provided at a later date.
