Public transport organizer

Since July 1, 2014, the public transport authority, i.e., Jyväskylä Region Public Transport, has been responsible for organizing local Linkki transport in Jyväskylä, Laukaa, and Muurame. At the beginning of 2024, Äänekoski, Hankasalmi, Toivakka and Petäjävesi joined Linkki's operating area.

The Passenger Transport unit within the City of Jyväskylä is responsible for the practical tasks of organizing public transport, including planning timetables and routes, as well as managing communications and marketing.

The Linkki service point (Asemakatu 7, Jyväskylä) manages and coordinates public transport customer service and is part of the City of Jyväskylä’s Customer and Support Services unit.

Area of competence and decision-making

Area of competence

Public transport in the Jyväskylä region provides Linkki public transport services on routes S1-S6, 3-46, 140, 141 and 143 in the areas of Jyväskylä, Laukaa, Muurame, Äänekoski, Hankasalmi, Petäjävesi and Toivakka.

Decision-making

As the public transport authority, the highest decision-making power is held by the regional Public Transport Committee, a joint governing body of Jyväskylä, Laukaa, Muurame, Äänekoski, Hankasalmi, Petäjävesi and Toivakka.

The Committee decides on matters such as ticket pricing, timetables and routes, as well as the competitive tendering of public transport services.

Transport operators

Linkki local transport has two competitive transport operators that run routes in accordance with the agreement on lines in Jyväskylä, Laukaa, Muurame, Äänekoski, Hankasalmi and Toivakka.

The buses operated by these companies follow the Linkki public transport color theme, meaning they are green and decorated with landscape images.

Development

Link to the Future 2030 / 2040

In 2019, a development program called Linkki to the Future 2030 was drawn up for public transport in the Jyväskylä region. The program examines the development trends of public transport in the Jyväskylä-Laukaa-Muurame area.

The Jyväskylä City Council and the municipal councils of Laukaa and Muurame unanimously approved the proposed development program in the fall of 2019.

A new development plan, Linkki to the Future 2040, is currently being prepared and will be completed in autumn 2026.

Customer panel

Linkki's customer panel is a group of public transport users who participate in the development of public transport. The aim is to gather ideas for public transport service providers and users' views on improving public transport services and conditions.

At meetings, presentations by experts are heard and topics related to the development of public transport are discussed. The panel may also make familiarization visits to various destinations or test new equipment.

The customer panel is a politically independent group that meets four to five times a year at pre-agreed times. There are just under 30 members in total.

Customer panel memos

The contents of the customer panel discussions are compiled into a memo, which is published on this website after the meeting. The memos are also forwarded to the decision-making authorities, such as the public transport committee.

The memos are in Finnish.
