Student welfare services in upper secondary school
Students in upper secondary school can also access the City of Jyväskylä’s pupil and student support services. The service is staffed by psychologists and student welfare advisors, who are on hand to offer help and guidance to all students. The services are provided with the student’s consent, and they can also involve family and friends as well as teachers and other relevant professionals. The purpose of the service is to promote the wellbeing of individual students and the wider school community and to help create a safe and positive learning environment for all.
The role of the student welfare advisors is to provide support with interpersonal relationships, social skills, participation and wellbeing, and they can also help students develop their life management skills. Guidance is also available on issues like family relationships and becoming more independent.
Our psychologists work with students and their parents/guardians by offering advice and support on developmental issues, mental health, resilience and general wellbeing.
Our student welfare advisors and psychologists can be contacted by telephone from Monday to Friday, and appointments are available on request. Under the Student Welfare Act, if the matter is urgent, the student must be seen the same day or the following day (excluding weekends and holidays). For non-urgent matters, students must be seen within seven days (excluding weekends and holidays). All services offered by our team of student welfare officers and psychologists are voluntary to attend and offered free of charge.
